New horizons: Expanding ties between Kazakhstan and Indonesia
We visited Indonesia and saw a strong future of cooperation and joint projects.
Indonesia is one of the fastest-growing and most interesting economies and countries, not only in Asia but also around the world. This week, Aselle Tasmagambetova and I have led a mission to explore the burgeoning opportunities the country might bring in the natural resources sector.
Yesterday, we met with Mr. Low Tuck Kwong, the true visionary behind Bayan Resources. We are looking into a shared commitment to sustainability and strategic growth in sectors such as mining and energy.
I think Kazakhstan must occupy a leading place in Asia internationally, and strengthening relations between Indonesia and Kazakhstan is one of the key landmarks of that development.
Some experts predict that by 2024, it will be the 5th largest economy in the world. The numbers are staggering: more than 17,000 islands, significant amount of natural resources, critical minerals such as cobalt, nickel, platinum, tungsten, magnesium, and chromium. Make no mistake, our Indonesian friends will be key in the future economic development and progress.
Indonesia and Kazakhstan have a robust partnership bilateral solidand trade, which saw an increase to USD 1.2 billion in 2022 (up 20% growth from the previous year). They also have clear cultural and historical ties that are a strong anchor for the future.
We have to be Eurocentric but also Asia-focused. Indonesia is an amazing place to visit, learn from, invest in, and know better.
